Is the autofocus on R8 better than on R5?

The battery power is so true. I was worried about the battery life cause I switched from 5D3 to R62, but it turns out that if the airplane mode is on, one battery can easily hold up to 2000 shutter releases. I think how long the mirrorless camera battery can hold is depends on how long the camera is on (then the screen and the EVF is constantly using the power), instead of how many shutter was fired.

Skylight will have direction albeit subtle. Unless going for a moody detached look I always pose the eyes of the subject up into the dominant indirect northern sky light like I would posing them in front of a window which nearly always requires them to look upward at a 20-30° angle to avoid the brow shading the eyes. Some might be thinking, “That’s why you add the flash” but if the ambient is darker in the eyes than on the cheeks and the flash reaches both the eyes are still going to be darker because exposure is additive. Having the subject looking up means the camera needs to be raised to look down so I always have a step ladder on an outdoor shoot. Once the face is posed up into the ambient light one simply needs to place the flash so it comes from the same direction. Because the angle of the ambient light is so steep the subject needs to look up that means 10 - 12ft. light stands are needed to match the angle of the natural key lighting to avoid the pattern becoming a muddle. Fill should always come from directly above the camera for several reasons: hiding the shadows it creates and make the placement of and specular highlights it create match those where they fall in natural light. The other important reason is fill from off axis will wind up shaded by body parts resulting in dark void which become distractions. I always use a Stroboframe camera-flip brackets and DIY ‘scoop’ diffuser when using flash indoors or out photo.nova.org/DIY01/

The FujiFilm X100VI is just such a joy to shoot with. As a true photographer and an old school one at that… the experience is just wonderful. It’s a modern purist kind of creative plaything. It just gives such a “real” experience to capturing life around you.

Love the Nikon colors, but that AF and lacking lens line-up is the no-go. If Sony would implement that warm color science and a true medium format cam, they would be perfect.

Can you go over your beauty dish and talk about when to use the deflector plate and it's purpose vs not using it. Similar to the diffusion screen. I always assumed the deflector plate and diffusion was used in every look.

You have to ask, how easy is it to get the shot right in camera and that’s when you realize with Sony, it is often harder than other brands.
